StorageOS V2.0 Announced

StorageOS V2.0 Milestone Reached!

Today we are pleased to announce StorageOS V2.0! This marks a huge accomplishment for the StorageOS team as we have read market trends and adapted our cloud native storage solution to meet these trends.

Cloud native storage trends

The last year has shown us that:

  • Users are running multiple cluster deployments in various patterns and want storage to connect seamlessly across all of them.
  • Users are running bigger Kubernetes clusters with more nodes requiring storage that can scale to these bigger environments and support stateful applications.
  • Kubernetes complex deployments can be unpredictable. Users require storage that delivers predictability for replication and failover.
  • Users are deploying more mature Kubernetes environments resulting in a need for production-grade storage.

StorageOS V2.0 has been enhanced to meet these trends in the rapidly evolving Kubernetes market.

StorageOS V2.0 Enhancements

  • V2.0 improves resiliency. Modern clustered environments like Kubernetes experience more transient failures by their very nature. StorageOS is built for Kubernetes. Its scalable architecture is designed to cope with unpredictable failure scenarios whereas traditional storage solutions cannot handle the complexity of clustered deployments at scale.
  • V2.0 supports how Kubernetes users want to deploy cloud native workflows. StorageOS combines the benefits of a self-service cloud native storage engine with the scalability and reliability of traditional environments. StorageOS uses standard Kubernetes commands to allow storage to be declarative allowing users to deploy and provision storage resources and services alongside CPU, networking and other application resources.
  • V2.0 enables scalability. Multiple cluster Kubernetes deployments require scalable storage. Using StorageOS, volumes and replicas are tightly coupled and behave as semi-independent units where decisions can be made independent of the rest of the cluster. Users can scale Kubernetes clusters while maintaining predictable performance and recovery. Scalability isn’t just about nodes. It’s about the number of operations the cluster supports. StorageOS’ declarative functionality and efficient control plane allows customers to quickly and easily create thousands of volumes per day with the confidence that storage is scalable and reliable.

New StorageOS Features

  • Encryption in transit. StorageOS is secure by default. Designed from the ground up, StorageOS enables security at every layer of the stack. V2.0 improves security with encryption in transit. Traffic between nodes is encrypted and authenticated. We manage the complexity of certificates for you with our internal certificate authority (CA).
  • StorageOS Delta Sync. In Kubernetes, network interruptions and node reboots are more common as clusters become more complex with more moving parts. Crashed clusters can lead to unpredictable recovery times. In the event of a network interruption or node reboot, StorageOS Delta Sync reduces the time to recovery allowing rapid cluster convergence by only replicating the missed data to the node.
